New Mexico Lobos vs Iona Gaels
Game time: 7:00 pm Mountain
TV: The Mountain West Network
Radio: Lobo Radio Network
The New Mexico Lobos will entertain the Iona Gaels Tuesday night at The Pit. The Lobos come into the game 1-0 on the regular season, and played an exhibition game against Northern New Mexico on Saturday night, winning 115-66. The Iona Gaels are also 1-0 on the season as they won last Friday night over Albany 72-68.
The Gaels like to spread the scoring around as they had three players in double figures led by EJ Crawford with 14 points, Ricky McGill with 12, and Tajuan Agee with 10 points.
The strong point for Iona is what the Lobos struggled to stop in their opener against Cal State-Northridge; offense in the paint.
Iona outscored Albany 32-6 in the paint, while the Lobos were outscored 44-24 in the paint against CSUN.
So, since Iona likes to spread the scoring around, the Lobos aren’t going to be able to key on one guy, the biggest key will be to slow down Iona’s inside presence and force them to shoot from the outside.
Another key will be to force turnovers. The Lobos forced 26 on Saturday night against Nothern New Mexico. Forcing turnovers will also help limit inside looks from Iona.
If the Lobos succeed in those two areas then they should be 2-0 by Wednesday morning.
