Let’s discuss some of the big games from the weekend:
Not many can say they saw this coming. Sure they were without their quarterback, but having him wouldn’t have changed giving up 50 points to the Lobos. This seemed like a game they needed to win to end up making a bowl game this season.
Sheriron Jones has had an up and down season. Starting as the #3 QB, but making numerous starts due to injuries, he had the game he was hoping for in Saturday’s win. The Lobos feast or famine season continues.
It was just before game-time when it was announced that Hawaii starting QB Cam McDonald would in fact not be starting. Instead, true freshman Chevan Cordeiro was thrust into the lineup. They were tied or trailed all of the game until a drive ending with a TD pass from Cordeiro with just over a minute left sealed the game. The Warriors got a glimpse of their future tonight.
The offense was not good. The quarterback play was not good. The running game was not good. The offensive line was really not good. Remember when the Bronco offense put up over 800 yards a few weeks ago? Me either. They barely cracked 100 in this game and really only had one good drive, their late 4th Q TD drive.
They came. They played. They conquered. The Aztecs didn’t get much from their trademark running attack, save for a huge 70 yard TD run from freshman Jordan Byrd. However, it was their defense that made their mark. Their 3-3-5 blitzes confused the Broncos QB and OL all game long and forced turnovers and punts galore. They were in control pretty much all game.
