MWC Recruiting Roundup 10-29-18

Get caught up on the latest in the recruiting world.

NCAA Football: Utah State at Wyoming Troy Babbitt-USA TODAY Sports

We are slowly but surely getting to the fun time of the year in terms of recruiting. There were quite a few new commits, 9 at the time of this writing, in the MWC this week. Utah State in particular made good use of their visit weekend, with 2 of the 3 known visitors committing over the weekend (the third was already a verbal commit). They take the banner this week.

Visit Recap

LB Jackson Cloyd (Air Force unoffical)

“AFA was a good atmosphere, playing for a different cause, like the coaches a ton and location itself. It’s hard to compare them to the visit to Reno and others. I have to look at them much differently given the commitment associated with the Academy’s. The game day experience was very cool, fans were pumped, the band and cadets were excited. The pregame was great with the flyover and skydivers. Good game day experience for the fans. Coaches are passionate and driven, yet personable. I think I do connect well with them, which is important. Overall great time. Next up is an unofficial visit to UC Davis.”

Commitment Spotlight

Malik Wesley (UNLV)

“I committed to the Rebels because school above all is the first decision when deciding my major and what opportunities they create for me to fit in that school. I’m still deciding between pre-med or pre-dental. Then the football; how there program fits with me and my talents and how the coaches develop a bond with me they showed me love and that’s great because I want to feel like I’m home. Then above all the home feeling Las Vegas is my home and UNLV has then became the right fit for me. The coaches will most definitely see great things outta me and will get the most out of me without doubt. Especially working out of this offense, they need a big receiver to make plays and I will most definitely work my tail off to be that guy for them. I’ll be a very aggressive guy on the field and light on my feet; also a play maker in the offense.”

WR Melquan Stovall (Nevada)

“The biggest reasons for me choosing Nevada was academics (they have a really great business program), also the coaching staff Coach Norvell and Scott both are great guys, also I like the way they plan on using me and I seen an opportunity for early playing time. They plan on using me primarily in the slot but moving me around to outside and running back, depending on matchups. Just finding different ways to get me the ball. I like that the coaches keep it real with me and they don’t sugar coat anything. Right now I’m on track to enroll early so I’ll be signing in December.”

Recruiting Tidbits

Boise State 4-star QB commit broke the TD record for the CIF South section this weekend. By my math, 154 is a lot.
