Border War: Colorado State vs Wyoming - Colorado State Preview

Colorado State looks to get the boot back for the first time since 2015

NCAA Football: Colorado State at Boise State Brian Losness-USA TODAY Sports

Colorado State and Wyoming aren't having the best of seasons this year. However records don't matter at all when it comes to this game. These two teams don't like each other, and the fans don't like each other either. This is the longest running game west of the Mississippi, and this game is the most important game of the year for both teams. This is the preview of 110th Border War.

TV/Radio: CBS Sports Network 8:00PM 102.7 Northern Colorado

History: 110th meeting CSU leads 58-46-5 (Trophy record Wyoming leads 26-24)

Line: Wyoming - 3

For Colorado state this is gonna present a challenge. Wyoming as a very good defense playing in that Tampa 2 style and they've had issues establishing the run. The Rams made a QB change this week giving Colin Hill his first start of the season. Here are the three things the Rams will need to do in order to win this game.

1. Establish the run - The run game has been on a slow improvement but it's not good enough. The offensive line needs to control the line of scrimmage and create second/third and shorts. If they get stuck in third and longs it will be a long night. If Izzy Matthews runs for 100 yards it will be a good night.

2. Defensive Intensity - The Ram defense was torched last week. They played a great game against New Mexico but couldn't get off the field. They need to pressure the QB and get timely stops. The Wyoming offense is not very good don't make them look like the top offense in the nation.

3. Protect the QB - This young patched up offensive line needs to play better. The tackles have to stop committing penalties, and give Colin time to throw. This is a passing attack that can score quickly if given the chance. Keep the pocket clean and the Rams will win. If they don't then it will be another loss.

Prediction time: This is the most important game of the season. Whoever wins can possibly turn their season around for the better. It's a game of contrasting styles and whoever imposes their style will win. I believe Colorado State will do that and Wyoming will struggle to score points. Colorado State 27 Wyoming 17
