Rypien Not Focused on All Mountain West Team Snub

Business As Usual For Boise State

NCAA Football: Cactus Bowl-Boise State vs Baylor Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY Sports

Despite being voted the best quarterback in the Mountain West both of his first two years in the conference, Brett Rypien was not voted onto the preseason all Mountain West team. Normally this would place a fairly large chip on the shoulder of the scorned player.

Normally.

Rypien on the other hand, came off as cool, calm, and collected as he met with the media Tuesday evening.

“Honestly, the most disappointing news for me today was knowing we aren’t going to Top golf tonight.” Said Rypien who heaped praise on Wyoming quarterback Josh Allen who ended up getting the all Mountain West nod. “He’s [Josh Allen] a great player, he deserves that. I think we’re both going to have great years. I’m looking forward to it. I’m actually more worried about his friend Mr. Wingard”

Rypien says instead of focusing on preseason awards, his, and his teams’, first focus is winning the Mountain division. “…Our first goal is to win the Mountain division, and then after that we can focus on the conference, but first and foremost we have to focus on our division, and we have a very tough division.”

It has been two years since the Broncos won the Mountain division, and the sense of urgency to win and win now is quite noticeable. And Rypien seems up to the challenge, even with defending Mountain West champion San Diego State on the schedule.

“…I haven’t been able to play them [SDSU] in my first two years, so that’ll be a challenge for sure, I think we are at San Diego State too, so we are looking forward to that game.” Rypien said he looks forward to rekindling the rivalry between not only Boise and SDSU, but Fresno State as well.

Try as the media, and other players might, it doesn’t look like anything is getting under his skin. Rypien is keeping it business as usual for him and his squad. His sole focus is getting Boise State back atop the Mountain West…Mountain, and nothing is going to get in his way.
