Former Rutgers Scarlet Knights Quarterback, Chris Laviano, has been signed by the San Diego State Aztecs football team with an offer-of-aid. An ESPN 4-star recruit out of high school, Laviano is available to play immediately for the Aztecs in the 2017 season.
Laviano played in 25 games over his three years as a Scarlet Knight, starting 18 times. Over his career, the Glen Head, N.Y., native and Holy Trinity HS grad has completed 268 of 480 attempts (55.8 pct.) for 3,102 yards and 21 touchdowns against 15 interceptions, posting a 118.3 pass efficiency rating.
During 2013 Laviano was an American Athletic Conference All-Academic Team selection and a 2014 Academic All-Big Ten pick. He had his best season as a sophomore in 2015 when he started the final 11 games of the season and completed 187 of his 307 attempts for a 60.9 completion percentage, the best mark by a Rutgers quarterback since 2008. He threw 16 touchdown passes and caught one, and passed for 2,247 yards.
Among the all-time Scarlet Knight quarterbacks in a season, Laviano ranked eighth in passing yards, ninth in completions, tied for ninth in touchdown passes and 10th in total offense (2,209 yards).
Prior to Rutgers, Laviano was a four-year starter at Holy Trinity High School, where he passed for 1,473 yards and 11 touchdowns as a senior.
The back-to-back MW Champion Aztecs are coming off an 11-3 season, knocking off Wyoming, 27-24, in last year’s MW Championship game and the Houston, 34-10, in the Las Vegas Bowl, to finish with a AP and Amway Coaches Poll No. 25 ranking.
It is hopeful Laviano can provide strong support to starting San Diego State QB Christian Chapman, who in his first two years has helped San Diego State clinch two Mountain West Championships, a Hawaii Bowl victory and a Las Vegas Bowl victory.
