The Arizona Bowl has a new television home as it is moving away from Campus Insiders and their over-the-air partner American Sports Network. The new network airing the game is CBS Sports Network, and some of that may have to do with the restructuring of Sinclair, 120 Sports and Campus Insiders in relation to ASN.
2017 starts the first of a multi-year deal between the bowl and CBS Sports Network, also the game announced it will be played on Dec. 30.
"We are excited to partner with the NOVA Home Loans Arizona Bowl and add another bowl game from a terrific destination city to our college football lineup,” said Dan Weinberg, Executive Vice President of Programming, CBS Sports. “We always welcome the opportunity to provide our viewers with more high quality post season college football."
This move may or may not provide more eyeballs on the game since there is no streaming provided from CBS Sports Network (well, outside very few pay TV providers) and ASN was an over-the-air channel but not an option in every network. The positives are that finding CBS Sports Network is much easier than seeing if one’s local broadcast channel is an affiliate.
The game in 2017 will feature a Mountain West team and the Sun Belt. Last year’s game saw Air Force come from behind to beat South Alabama, 45-21.
