The Colorado State Rams (16-9, 8-4 MW) came into this game against the Utah State Aggies (10-13, 4-8 MW) on a roll, winning four of their last five. Against the Aggies, they extended that to five of their last six.
Both teams had a really quiet first half to start the game. The first points of the game didn’t come until almost 2 minutes into the game on an Emmanuel Omogbo dunk. It took Utah State 5 1⁄2 minutes of game time to score, courtesy of a Koby McEwen 3.
The teams were tied at 23 with three minutes left when the Rams decided to go on a run. A 10 point run to end the half put the Rams up 33-23. During that 10 point run, Prentiss Nixon hit two three-pointers and Gian Clavell had one.
Sam Merrill had a terrific defensive performance guarding Clavell in the first half. Unfortunately for Utah State, Merrill was in foul trouble for most of the game and had to sit. Merrill’s foul trouble allowed Gian Clavell to heat up.
The second half was all Rams. Gian Clavell hit some ridiculous threes and finished with 24 points. Emmanuel Omogbo finished with another double-double with 10 points and 14 rebounds. Nico Carvacho had a big game coming within 2 rebounds of a double-double himself, 11 points and 8 rebounds. Prentiss Nixon rounds out the double digit scorers with 11. Nixon was 3 assists and 3 rebounds short of a triple double.
The Rams gained some confidence from this game and look to continue that against Fresno State on Saturday.
