The inevitable is upon us, folks.
The Mountain West will be winning some postseason games this March.
Though the MWC will only have its conference tournament winner headed to the NCAA Tournament this year, there should be plenty of action in the NIT next month.
The Mountain West has filled exactly one eighth of the entire bracket update from NYCBuckets, which includes Boise State (#2 seed), New Mexico (#4), San Diego State (#6) and Colorado State (#8). This bracket assumes that Nevada, which is currently slated as a #12 seed in Bracket Matrix’s field, notches a bid to the NCAA Tournament.
An important rule change to NIT eligibility could very well impact the Mountain West this season. All teams that win regular season titles but fail to see their names called on Selection Sunday are automatically slated into the NIT bracket. This could be the reality of Nevada, Colorado State or Boise State if they come up short in March’s MWC tournament.
NYCBuckets will also be updating CBI and CIT bracketology as the season progresses, where we might find a few more MWC clubs.
As for now, count on at least a handful of Mountain West teams trying their hand at this year’s National Invitation Tournament.
