San Diego State has added BYU to its future football schedule with a home-and-home in with the first game at San Diego State on Nov. 30, 2019. Then the second game will be played at LaVell Edwards Stadium in Provo on Nov. 14, 2020.
The exact location for the game that San Diego State is unsure as there are still questions about where the Aztecs will play after their lease with Qualcomm is up after 2018 but there are talks about extending that lease or sharing a stadium with a potential new MLS stadium.
This is a huge deal that San Diego State is playing BYU in the regular season as this is the first long-time former conference mate to play the Cougars that is not in a bowl game since BYU went independent back in 2011.
This leaves Colorado State, New Mexico and Wyoming as former WAC conference members (UNLV does not really count as they were together with BYU in the 16-team WAC) to not schedule BYU in the regular season.
BYU’s athletic director Tom Holmoe is glad to have this rivalry back on the schedule.
“We’re excited to renew our strong history with San Diego State in a series that has included many incredible games over the years.”
BYU and San Diego have met 36 times and the Cougar lead the all-time series 28-7-1 and the last time the two met was in in the 2012 Poinsettia Bowl where BYU topped San Diego State, 23-6.
Here is San Diego State’s non-conference schedule for 2019 and 2020.
