MWC Recruiting Roundup 12-18

Recap of the last full week before the dead period, early signing day.

NCAA Football: UNLV at Nevada Lance Iversen-USA TODAY Sports

Welcome to the Dead Period ladies and gentleman. From the NCAA website: “During a dead period a college coach may not have face-to-face contact with college-bound student-athletes or their parents, and may not watch student-athletes compete or visit their high schools. Coaches may write and telephone student-athletes or their parents during a dead period.” This period will last until January 11th. Although recruits are still allowed to commit during this time, there won’t be much recruiting action going on. But that was not the case this past week, as it was full of offers, commits, visits, and even some decommits.

Commitment Spotlight:

DE Andy Koch (Utah State)

“I really loved the culture. I just love how cool all the guys are. I found a lot of guys like me at Utah state and I feel like that is rare. The team as a whole is just awesome. Practices are highly competitive and I could just feel the energy and intensity. All of the players had amazing things to say about the coaches. It's a family man. All of the coaches believe in me like I'm their own son and it's just a great feeling. They have told me I will become an offensive tackle. And just off of my own observations and realizations that's where I think I will fit the best anyways. Coach farmer is an amazing and an amazing man I trust that he will lead me in the direction of greatnessThe business school will be able to set me up for my life after and beyond football. The weight room program is gonna get me hella right and swole. Just all around it is an amazing school. It's just where I fit.”

JUCO DB DJ Williams (Utah State)

“I LOVED it there! The players, coaches, facilities, & the defensive system is perfect timing for me to come be an impact at nickel. Their All-American DB is graduating (Jalen Davis) so I’ll have the opportunity to come in right away and compete for a starting spot. But I’ll have to earn it, nothing will be given to me. The coaches really like that I’m physical and able to play both man coverage as well as blitz.”

DT Matt Lawson (Fresno State)

“It’s a great feeling to finally be able to announce this! It felt like home to me. Its also close to home so It kind of is. Early playing time was also a big factor. They think I can play 3 technique and 1 technique equally well, so they like my versatility and think I can make my impact right away. The players, people, and coaches were easy to talk to. I felt like I was apart of the family. I have a great relationship with the coaches and can talk to them about anything.

OL Anthony Pardue (SJSU)

“The biggest things for me were the people, the culture, and the coaches. The staff are all down to earth and good people. I especially loved Coach Bernardi’s coaching; he has coached me at a camp before in the summer and he reminded me of my high school coach. They like tough physical players who love football, so I’ll fit right in. They also like my physicality most of all. In addition to all of that, I also like the area and the academics they have to offer. I’m trying to win games and I’m excited to get that culture back at San Jose.”
