Monday again? How did this happen? Make the day a bit easier to handle but reading some articles from around the Mountain West Conference:
Penny finishes 5th in Heisman voting, tops among Group of 5. Why couldn’t they invite him?
Rashaad Penny had an amazing individual season, rushing for an FBS best 2,027 yards, plus a plethora of receiving and return yards. Strength of schedule arguments can be made of course (even though they played, and beat, two PAC-12 teams), but did not get invite as a Heisman finalist, despite finishing in 5th place. I’m not making the argument he should have won, but he was one of the top players in the country this year and I think it would be a nice reward to have him at the ceremony with the other players. Top 5 finalists sounds right to me.
The 1941 Spartans made history, but not on the football field.
This was the coolest story of the week, and that’s an understatement. Watch this video. You won’t regret learning how their football team is connected to Pearl Harbor.
The Oregon coaching search is over, and no MWC head coaches were poached.
The Ducks promoted from within, appeasing the players and the hope is that this smoothes over recruiting as well as provides some long-term stability so they don’t make the coaching search an annual thing.
However, there is this little nugget about Bryan Harsin.
This really shouldn’t be a surprise to anyone. Boise State regularly has coaches taken from their ranks each year to move to P5 jobs. And for a Group of 5 program, if no one is inquiring about your coaches, then you’re program probably isn’t doing very well. On a similar note, all the P5 coaching positions have been filled. However, teams are still putting together their staffs. Colorado State has take the biggest hit so far.
