If you’ve been trying to keep up on all the recruiting news in the MWC over the past week, you may have felt the following things at one time or another: excited, frustrated, anxious, and overwhelmed. There is a lot going on. Every single team was out doing in-home visits, hosting recruits on campus over the weekend, handing out new offers and most importantly, securing commits. San Jose State especially did a great job with the latter. If it was tough to keep up, don’t beat yourself up. It was tough for us as well. But we tried out best and have it all here. There’s a good number of interviews with recruits who committed or visited (or both) over the past two weeks. There will probably be another one mid-week as we have not been able to get a hold of everyone. For now, enjoy what we have:
Visit Recaps:
DB Tre Jenkins (SJSU)
“It was a great first visit experience, touring the campus was great especially with all the new buildings they’re putting up. The restaurants we went to were really good, and a new program called Beyond Football that they talked to us about was also a highlight. The coaching staff is key on family and that’s what they made the recruits feel like when we visited. There’s a good chance that I could play as a true freshman if i wanted to and that they can see me as a top guy who could make an impact early on.”
OL Jaime Navarro (SJSU)
“It went amazing !!! I loved everything about it. The energy from the staff and the bonds between the players and coaches felt like family. And the way the players welcomed me to the team felt great. And Bernardi, the O line coach, made the visit high in energy. But the vibes of San Jose attracted me a lot with the city life. And the amount of diversity really made me feel more comfortable to be there. And the school will make me the best student I can be and set my future straight for the rest of my life and make many amazing memories.”
WR Malik Rodgers (Air Force)
“It was amazing! Met every expectation that I had. From the amazing coaching staff to the players and the recruits and being in Colorado Springs in general was just awesome. They were very real if that makes sense. They didn’t sugar coat anything. It’s a military school and they don’t want people to mistake it but they told us the good parts about the Football aspect and the military aspect as well. I’m glad they were upfront with all the recruits so they could make a educated decision about coming. I believe all the recruits loved what was going on up there as well so you should see some more commits in the next couple weeks!”
CB/RB David Eure (Air Force)
“I big reason I committed was the brotherhood part of it. On the visit I felt at home and that no matter what they will get you to be successful. Everyone takes care of each other and cares for one another. Also the fact that I could end up playing early was very appealing to me. I’m just an all around ball player. I’m coming in as a CB and I will be returning kicks and punts. My coach think I could end up being converted to a RB once I get there. The staff like my size , speed and physicality but also they like my character overall and I fit they system. Not just with football but with their mission to be successful in life.”
OL Alama Uluave (SDSU)
My visit was awesome! SDSU showed a lot of love for me and my mom! It’s a really great school. I loved the food. I also have old teammates at SDSU so it was great seeing them again and they really took care of me! With the coaches I talked about school and football. I met with the OL coach and he broke down their game plans and plays and i really liked it and it was easy for me to pick up. I can see myself there. SDSU has a great thing going. I still gotta check out my other options though before I make my commitment though, that’s the plan.”
JUCO DB Terin Adams (SDSU)
“It was unreal. I love SDSU. The campus was beautiful and I really like the coaching staff. Their mentality. They have a winning attitude which to me is vital. I really like everything about it. As boring of an answer that is it’s accurate for me.”
DB Chris Mitchell (CSU)
“It was such a great experience and I love the football program and academics. The coaching staff is awesome and very great people. I have strong relationships with the coaches.”
Derek Thomas (Hawaii)
“The visit was great. I loved surfing, going to get food every day with all the coaches, and going to the stadium. Everything they had were super nice! All the facilities, the weight room and locker room. Pretty much with the coaches we talked about their expectations of every athlete they’re recruiting. And they offered me so that was good.
DT Matt Lawson (Fresno State)
“The visit was great!!! Key highlights for me were my interaction with commits, coaches, & the rest of team. I didnt just feel wanted but needed.”
Commit Spotlight:
DE Solomon Byrd (Air Force)
“I felt the family enviornent and saw where I would be living for the next four years. I felt like there would be no better place I could possible be everyone there was up front and real with me. The coaches are more like older brothers and uncles and less like a commander or a dictator. And as far as them using me that goes back to them keeping it "real". Coach cooper told me the best guys will play on Saturday. I'm going to work my hardest in the weight room and on the field and I'm already a good size going into college now I just need to build on it.”
