Mountain West Basketball: Numbers You Need To Know

It might not be the best year for the MWC, but it sure is one of the most interesting.

It has been an eventful few days for the Mountain West, here are a handful of stats and facts you should know:

0 - Number of seconds UNLV spent leading Boise State Wednesday night. BSU led 31-9 early and never let up in the blowout victory.

2 - Number of starts by Elijah Brown in the last five New Mexico games. Brown came off the bench for three consecutive games to end 2016 before returning to the starting lineup. The MWC preseason POY started all but three games last season.

6th - Wyoming’s adjusted tempo rate under first year head coach Allen Edwards. The Cowboys ranked 316th in adjusted tempo last season in Larry Shyatt’s last season.

8.9% - San Jose State’s conference win percentage since joining the Mountain West in the 2013-14 season. The Spartans are 5-51, with four of the five victories coming last year.

11.9 - Chandler Hutchison has improved his points per game average by 11.9 this season. KenPom currently projects Hutchison as the MWC player of the year, as he has been one of the most improved players in the entire country.

17.0 - Points per game lost with the suspension of three Colorado State role players - Che Bob, Kimani Jackson and Devocio Butler. The three Rams will miss the rest of the season due to academic eligibility concerns.

41 - San Diego State’s national ranking in adjusted defensive efficiency, its worst since 2012. SDSU has ranked 4th, 4th, 7th, and 14th the past four seasons.

42.4% - Percentage of three-pointers made by Air Force through 15 games, the second best rate in the nation this season. Air Force’s 3-point attempt frequency, however, is 157th.

43.5% - Percentage of San Diego State’s total points scored by Jeremy Hemsley Wednesday night in a 72-69 loss to Nevada. The Aztecs are 0-2 when Hemsley scores over 25 points.

52.4 - New Mexico’s free throw rate, which is 2nd in the country. The Lobos have seven players that are shooting over 75% from the charity stripe.

73.3% - Home win percentage in conference play in the Mountain West this season. The MWC has finished in the top 10 conference-wise in home win percentage the past two years.

665 - Number of days since the Mountain West had a team ranked in the AP top 25. Boise State was #25 on March 9th, 2015.

2012 - San Diego State hasn’t lost three consecutive conference games since February of 2012. The Aztecs are in Boise taking on the 3-0 Broncos on Saturday.

1,000,000 - The number of times you should replay this Cameron Oliver put-back dunk from Wednesday night’s victory.
