Nevada Possible Lineup for 2017
The Wolf Pack made a late push for the regular season title that fell a little short. How many return that helped that climb? Take a look. Incoming players will have to deliver I suspect.
Bozar’s best guess:
C - Kaleb Foster (SO) - .186 and 0 in 102 ABs
1B - Jordan Pearce (JR) - .332 and 4 (second team All-MWC)
2B - Jaylon McLaughlin (FR) - freshman and a draft choice
SS - Justin Bridgman (SR) - .351 and 0
3B - Tyler Flores (FR) - freshman
OF - Otis Statum (FR) - freshman and a draft choice
OF - Cole Krzmarzick (JR) - .368 and 1
OF - Grant Fennel (JR) - .250 and 1
DH - Keaton Smith - .264 and 2
SP - Trevor Charpie (SR) - 5-4 3.74
SP - Mark Nowaczewski (JR) - 5-1 and 4.04
SP - Ty Pennington (SR) - 4-0 and 3.89
SP - Riley Ohl (FR) - freshman
RP - Evan McMahan (SR) - 5-2 and 5.31 to go with 6 saves in 40 IP
Nevada lost a lot off a pretty good team from 2016. The top of the batting order has moved on, including a late signing of TJ Friedl by Cincinnati. They'll be pressed to fill big holes in the outfield and catcher. The big wasteland is the pitching staff where all the starters other than Trevor Charpie are gone. Charpie had 10 starts so where are the other 40 or so coming from? Right, tough question. I feel Charpie will be the Friday guy and Nowaczewski has starting experience. That's two. Nowaczewski can fill in as closer if McMahan needs a break as both had saves in 2016.
I've listed a few frosh in the starting lineup as well as in the rotation. In looking at my article on the incoming recruits these were names that stood out for me and they fill holes that need to be addressed. Who knows what a freshman will do. A high profile kid falls on his face and an average hitter or pitcher grows up a bit and makes it big time. I have McLaughlin at 2B but another looks good in Flores and he might stick somewhere.
