Week 1 Mountain West football power rankings: Trio of teams earn first-place votes

Who is ranked No. 1 after a week’s worth of football?

NCAA Football: Poinsettia Bowl- Boise State vs Northern Illinois Jake Roth-USA TODAY Sports

The first week of Mountain West play is in the books and judging teams that played against FCS teams can be difficult, so look for our weekly power rankings to jump around during the first three or four games of the year.

In this initial poll there was no unanimous team and there were actually three teams to earn at least one first-place vote in Utah State, San Diego State and Boise State. On the other end of the spectrum there were six teams who received one vote for the basement.

Wyoming is one interesting team to watch as they got a big win at home over Northern Illinois but they are all over the board in our staffs voting. The high for the Cowboys is third and their low vote(s) was in the 10th position.

The top two spots are clear with Boise State and San Diego State holding down that end of the poll, and it likely will be that way until either team stumbles.
