This should not come as a shock that neither Boise State or San Diego State are ranked in first regular season AP and coaches poll, but at the end of the day it means squat as only the playoff committee polls determine anything and those come out after Halloween.
However, recognition is nice and being ranked gets more people to tune into one’s teams. Boise State played so well in their win over Louisiana-Lafayette that they fired their defensive coordinator, and San Diego State cruised to a win over New Hampshire.
Neither was enough as both are earning votes in both polls but not ranked. The Broncos are the 28th team in the AP while the Aztecs are 30th; in the coaches poll Boise State is 29th while San Diego State was at 35th.
Both teams have a good shot to be ranked next week if they win. Boise State hosts Washington State and while the Cougars loss to an FCS team last week that might not matter.
San Diego State has an equally tough challenge hosting Cal who had a week off after topping Hawaii in Australia.
Here are the teams that did make the cut.
