The Hawaii Warriors know one more thing about the Cal Bears prior to their opening game in Australia — which by the way is on August 26.
The Bears were in need of a new quarterback to replace Jared Goff who was taken number one overall in the previous NFL Draft. Webb comes from Texas Tech and for a brief time was going to finish up his career at Colorado.

“We felt like it was the right decision to make once separation occurred,” Cal head coach Sonny Dykes said in a statement. “Davis’ maturity and knowledge of what we’re trying to do put him a little bit ahead of our other quarterbacks.
“He’s new to our program but he came in with three seasons of experience at Texas Tech running this style of offense. We wanted to work out the details of our offense and put all the pieces together, and the quarterback is a pretty important part of that.”
Webb comes in with a decent amount of experience as he started 14 games and appeared in 23 for Texas Tech. In that time he tossed for 5,557 yards and 46 touchdowns. He was in a quarterback battle but ultimately lost out to Patrick Mahomes.
Kliff Kingsbury’s offense is a very similar to the “Bear Raid” that Dykes runs at Cal which features multiple wide receiver sets and a high volume of passing attempts.
The scheme that Hawaii will face does not change one bit but they now can focus on Davis by looking back at his tape at Texas Tech.
Hawaii and Cal open up the college football season three weeks from today in Sydney, Australia.
