It was just one of those days for Mountain West alumni in the NBA Orlando Summer League.
With an abbreviated three-game slate in the fold and only four former Mountain West standouts hitting the court, the potential was likely not there for one of those breakout days for the conference. It's hard to say that anybody could've imagined it being this lackluster.
Former Fresno State star Marvelle Harris (New York Knicks) led all Mountain West alumni scorers on the day, chipping in 4 points and 2 assists in a 95-90 loss to Orlando Magic-White. Harris unfortunately doubled Goodluck Okonoboh's two-point total for the Charlotte Hornets in their own 84-81 loss to the Dallas Mavericks. At that point, it may have been a blessing in disguise that no former Mountain West players were on the rosters for the final game of the day between the Indiana Pacers and the Oklahoma City Thunder.
Fellow Mountain West alumni Alex Davis (Orlando Magic-White) and J.J. Avila (New York Knicks) also hit the hardwood, logging a combined ten minutes of court-time but the duo mustered just a point between them. The showings come at a particularly poor time for many of these potential NBA hopefuls, as the Orlando Summer League enters it's last day of action on Thursday.
The Thursday schedule for the Orlando Summer League will conclude with another three-game schedule, culminating in a Detroit Pistons-MIami Heat Championship game. The league winds down just in time for the Utah Summer League to kick back up for it's final night, as the NBA begins to enter the chaotic fury of endless basketball that is the Las Vegas Summer League. Notable Mountain West standouts who will be in action for the final night of the Utah Summer League are Christian Wood (UNLV - Philadelphia 76ers), James Webb III (Boise State - Philadelphia 76ers), Alex Kirk (New Mexico - San Antonio Spurs), J.J. O'Brien (San Diego State - Utah Jazz) and Spencer Butterfield (Utah State - Utah Jazz).
