In a move that echoes its recently cemented partnership with the National Football League, Twitter announced today that its social media platform would host live streamed events from Campus Insiders.

Brooks Boyer, the CEO of Silver Chalice, whose parent company owns Campus Insiders, is confident that this is the right move for his brand. “Streaming live games directly on Twitter is a natural evolution of the fan experience,” he said, adding that Twitter provided a “groundbreaking opportunity for our conference partners, the student athletes we cover and the millions of fans with a passion for college sports.”

At a minimum, this immediately extends the potential reach of Campus Insiders’ fall slate of Mountain West football action, though CI also has an extensive year-round schedule that includes the MWC, West Coast Conference and more. It also means good news for the NOVA Home Loans Arizona Bowl, which debuted last year as college football’s first digital broadcast-only bowl game. All told, the figure reaches about 3,000 games across college athletics.

It’s a unique opportunity for the Mountain West, one that we at MWC Connection have mulled over in the past, so stay tuned for any further developments on the partnership.
