The 2016 Mountain West football championship game is now two years removed from being on CBS and will air on either ESPN or ESPN2. Last year, the title game was on ESPN2 and at a more reasonable hour at 7:30 p.m. ET and away from the late night kick of 10 p.m. ET that the conference previously had.

The conference announced that the kick off time will once again be earlier in the day at 7:30 or 7:45 p.m ET, and will allow more people to see this game since a good amount of games start at 10 p.m. ET or later.

The game will be played at the home of the division champion that is ranked the highest within the College Football Playoff rankings. Last year, no team was ranked and the computers that made up the former BCS formula will be used to determine who hosts.

Playing in prime time has its issues since this game will be going up against the ACC championship game and the Big Ten championship games which are scheduled to start between 7:30 and 8 p.m. ET. There very likely will be an evening Big 12 game which could eat into some eyeballs. This earlier slot is better than the alternative.

San Diego State hosted Air Force in the 2015 Mountain West football title game, and the Aztecs won their first outright Mountain West title with a 27-24 victory over the Falcons.
