Marvin Menzies can't win them all.

It is now official that Ben Carter is a former UNLV Runnin' Rebel and will finish his final year of eligibility with the Spartans.

Carter announced on April 12 that he was going to look for a new school to finish is collegiate career, but keeping his options open including the return to UNLV. The way the Rebels coaching search turned out to be a cluster with Chris Beard up and leaving town less than a month as the head coach did not help.

The eventual hire of Menzies apparently was not enough for Carter to say one more year in Las Vegas. He is a graduate transfer and can play right away for Michigan State. Carter was strategic in picking to play for Tom Izzo since the Spartans themselves loss key players in Marvin Clark and Deyonta Davis.

This past season, Carter averaged 8.6 points, 6.0 boards and 1.6 assists per game, and he still is recovering from a torn ACL which he suffered on Jan. 30.
