Yes, the 2017 NFL Draft is over 11 months away but that does not stop from early draft rankings from coming out now, and then being totally irrelevant prior to the first college football game.
This does not stop those form putting together position rankings and ESPN's most famous head of hair/draft guru, Mel Kiper, Jr., put together his top five players at each position.
Kiper was friendly to the Mountain West in these ranking positions, and he broke them up from seniors to underclassmen. So, this is not necessarily a definitive ranking for the draft but it does a nice job of including those who are draft eligible and seniors.
First up on the list from Kiper should come as no surprise as it is San Diego State running back Donnel Pumphrey who is considered as the second best senior back, and behind USC's Justin Davis.
The list of draft eligible backs are very good and all five probably would be ahead of Pumphrey.
1. Leonard Fournette, LSU
2. Nick Chubb, Georgia
3. Jalen Hurd, Tennessee
4. Dalvin Cook, Florida State
5. Christian McCaffrey, Stanford
The next player is also from San Diego State and that is senior guard Nico Siragusa who is rated as the fifth overall. Siragusa has potential to be an all-Mountain West lineman this season.
There were no Mountain West players on the defensive side of this list, but there was one on specialist that made that cut and that was Hawaii senior punter Rigoberto Sanchez who came in as the senior fifth punter.
