Colorado State wide receiver Deionte Gaines took to Instagram to announce that he is leaving the Rams program.
“I’d like to start this off by saying I appreciate the love and hospitality of Fort Collins,” Gaines wrote on his Instagram account. “Also, I’d like to thank CSU and Coach Bobo for allowing me to be a student and an athlete at Colorado State. I’m very thankful for the people I’ve met and the friendships I’ve gained while being here. I’ll miss you guys.
“Thank you to all of my brothers on the team for always treating me like a brother since I got here," he said. "I’ll always be a Ram no matter where I go! All things must come to an end and unfortunately, I will not be attending CSU next year and will be continuing my football career elsewhere.”
Gaines He was not around during spring practice and head coach Mike Bobo was asked about not having the wide receiver on the football field.
“He is not with the football team right now,” Bobo said. "It’s an –in-house matter right now. I’m not going to comment on it till I have a formal statement.”
Colorado State said that Bobo would not have anything further to say on the matter of Gaines leaving the program.
Gaines was not just an explosive slot receiver but he also was returning kicks and ran the ball for Colorado State.
He had 25 plays from scrimmage for 250 yards and three touchdowns. Thirteen were receptions and 12 were rushes and every time he touched the ball, including kicks, he averaged 15.84 yards.
There is no early word on where Gaines will finish his college career, however it should be noted that he was not with the team at the Arizona Bowl because he was academically ineligible. That might have something to do with him leaving Fort Collins.
The Orlando-native has two years left of eligibility and is able to use a redshirt.
