The Boise State Broncos men's basketball team added Derrick Alston Jr. to its 2016-2017 roster Tuesday morning. Alston Jr., the son of former Philadelphia 76er Derrick Alston, is a Houston, TX native and future Strake Jesuit College Prep graduate.

Alston Jr. is a 6'7" forward who shares a similar build as junior BSU swingman Chandler Hutchison. Although Hutchison is more of an athletic slasher, Alston Jr. also possesses a high basketball I.Q. and is a dangerous shooter from the perimeter. In short, Alston Jr. won't jump out of the building like Hutchison, but he does have an impressive touch from deep, something that's currently missing from Hutchison's repertoire.
Not only is Alston Jr. a talented walk-on, but it leaves another open scholarship for Leon Rice to play with next season. There are currently three available scholarships for 2016-17, and Washington State's Que Johnson and former UNLV commit Carlos Johnson both have interest in the Broncos.
Here's a look at the current Boise State depth chart:
Point Guards: Paris Austin (So.)
Wings/Off-ball Guards: Chandler Hutchison (Jr.), James Reid (Sr.), Alex Hobbs (Fr.), Justinian Jessup (Fr.), Cody Spjute (So.), Collin Landry (So.), Malek Harwell (Fr.), Derrick Alston Jr. (Fr.)
Forwards: David Wacker (Jr.), Nick Duncan (Sr.), Robin Jorch (So.), Zach Haney (So.)
