It looks like UNLV is going to be on its fourth head coach since January. Fox News West Texas is reporting that Beard has accepted the opening at Texas Tech which became available after Tubby Smith took the job at Memphis. The two met in Las Vegas this evening to discuss the opening.
Other outlets are now reporting that Beard is taking the Texas Tech job.

Details of the contract were not disclosed in this report but it does mention that Texas Tech might have a tough time matching the five-year, $5.7 million contract that UNLV and Beard agreed upon.
Smith was making $1.8 million per year as the Red Raiders head coach and had he stayed and not left for Memphis that number would increase to the $2 million per year range.Texas Tech would also have to pay the Rebels a $1 million buyout as part of Beard's deal and then his salary.
Mark Anderson of the Las Vegas Review-Journal tried to confirm the hire but was unable to at this time.

Looks like UNLV is heading back to the coaching search pool and the candidates that likely will be considered are names that have been mentioned ad nausea.
UNLV athletics director Tina Kunzer-Murphy offered up a vague statement on Beard:

The names again are former UNLV assistants Ryan Miller and Stacey Augmon, New Mexico State head coach Marvin Menzies and a name which has popped up is Colorado State head coach Larry Eustachy who was a person of interest before Beard was hired.
