Trinity Valley Community College Cardinals standout forward Leon Gilmore III is going to be Colorado State Ram. Gilmore committed to the green and gold via twitter on Sunday. He can officially sign on April 13th when the NCAA’s spring signing period opens up.
Larry Eustachy and his staff heavily recruited the 6-foot-7, 230-pound Texas native, "They really showed that they really wanted me and felt like I could impact the team and be a great piece to the team," Gilmore said. He averaged 11 points and seven rebounds a game last year for the Cardinals.
Gilmore will add much needed depth to a front court that loses Tiel Daniels to graduation. The Rams will need Gilmore to help out Emmanuel Omogbo in the low post and provide a much needed help on the glass.
Gilmore played his freshman year in Omaha, Nebraska for the Creighton Bluejays. He suffered a season-ending injury after playing in just eight games. He then transferred to Trinity Valley where he helped the Cardinals to the quarterfinals of the National Junior College Athletic Association tournament.
Gilmore will be a welcomed addition to a team that finished a disappointing 18-16 overall and 8-10 in the Mountain West. If senior Gian Clavell can gain a medical hardship, the Rams look poised for a return to the post-season in the 2016-2017 season
