It was not a pretty win but the Nevada Wolf Pack will gladly take it as they defeated the Morehead State Eagles 77-68 in Game 2 of the CBI Championship Finals on Wednesday night. With the Wolf Pack's victory, this sets up a winner-take-all Game 3 for the CBI Championship which will be played on Friday night.
The Wolf Pack got a big game tonight from junior guard DJ Fenner as he led the team with 26 points off of 7 for 12 shooting from the field. Freshman sensation Cameron Oliver had a double-double tonight as he scored 14 points and 11 rebounds despite having another night of foul trouble. Tyron Criswell chipped in by scoring 12 points and grabbing six rebounds. Nevada led through much of the game and was up by as many as 12 points but the Eagles came back and cut the Nevada lead to four points.
With the Wolf Pack only up 66-62, with 2:08 left in the game, Fenner hit a big three-pointer to extend the Wolf Pack lead to seven at 69-62 and they never looked back as they secured their 24th win of the season and will lived to play another day for a chance to win the school's first ever postseason championship on Friday.
The end of the game featured some testiness between Wolf Pack and the Eagles when the Nevada players went up to the student section to sing the alma mater and the Morehead State players and staff bumped into the Nevada players which sparked more talking and yelling back and forth between the two teams. All this animosity will make Friday's game even more intense.
This win improves Nevada's season record to 24-13 and the win also improves Nevada's home record to 15-3 for the season. Nevada's final home game of the 2015-2016 will be an important one as they play the Eagles one more time to decide the winner of the 2016 CBI Tournament. Tip-is at 6 pm in Reno at the Lawlor Events Center.
