The Wyoming Cowboys added a road game against Big Ten's Illinois for a game that is years down the road, and will be played at Champaign, Illinois, on Sept. 17. This is a one-and-done game for the Cowboys and will net Wyoming a nice paycheck from the Illini to the tune of $1.1 million.
That is a good amount of money for the Cowboys to receive for a game that is very winnable as Illinois has struggled for a while in the Big Ten, and last year they were 5-7 overall, including 2-6 in Big Ten Conference play.
This will be the first meeting between the two programs, and for Wyoming they have faced seven Big Ten teams to date. That includes playing Wisconsin, Ohio State, Michigan, Iowa, Minnesota, Nebraska and Michigan State. The singular win over a Big Ten team came 30 years ago when they topped Wisconsin, 21-12.
Upcoming Big Ten games for Wyoming include road trips to Nebraska in 2016 and then Iowa in 2017.
This is the second game that Wyoming has on their schedule for the 2022 season with the other being a home game on Sept. 3 against Tulsa.
