Oklahoma State's Travis Ford 'not considered' for UNLV job

Oklahoma State head coach Travis Ford is reportedly not a top candidate for the UNLV opening.

Denny Medley-USA TODAY Sports

One name that can reportedly be crossed off the list to be the new  UNLV basketball coach is Oklahoma State's head coach Travis Ford. Ford has been in Stillwater, Oklahoma, since 2008 with five NCAA Tournament appearances to his name and has a 155-111.

Having Ford in Las Vegas could work, but the Las Vegas Review-Journal is saying that is not likely to happen.

UNLV has interviewed three coaches on staff in assistant coach Stacey Augmon and interim head coach Todd Simon, plus associate head coach Ryan Miller. Those three are the top candidates on the Rebels staff. Those may not be the top three candidates as there is word that Dayton's Archie Miller is considered a candidate for the job, and then there is the longest of long shots in Louisville' Rick Pitino.

For now, the news is that three current staffers have interviewed and Ford is not considered a "top candidate." Expect for more interviews and names to come out after the first weekend of the NCAA Tournament and more coaches are available to talk to UNLV.
