True freshman Bryce Mortenson comes to Utah State by way of in-valley high school Sky View. He had a stellar career for the Bobcats, racking up 2,605 yards on 158 receptions, including 38 TD receptions.
The versatile athlete played basketball as well as football, and could certainly have had a future in that arena had he so chosen. Fortunately for the Aggies, he chose the gridiron, and fans will see him suiting up as a tight end.
Bryce's size is an obvious asset, allowing him to make catches other simply would not be able to get up to. He also uses his size in the blocking game, where he frequently just throws opponents to the ground rather than bother to maintain the block.
His main areas he will need to improve in as he transitions to the next level will be ball control (he is a little loose with how he holds the ball) and be more careful about angles on his blocking. His passion, power, size, speed, and catching ability give him a huge upside, and he is poised to become a powerful playmaker for the Aggies' offense in coming years.
