The San Diego State Aztecs land 3-star inside linebacker Dru Mathis of Buena High (Ventura, CA). Mathis had been recruited heavily from other Mountain West programs, but ultimately chose to follow his older brother Kendrick Mathis, incoming-senior safety. to SDSU.
Thanks for all of the other schools that showed me love, but I will be committing to SDSU to join my brother! ⚫️⚫️ pic.twitter.com/8XjylhPbab

Mathis is listed at inside linebacker, but has no problems with rushing the quarterback and disrupting the offenses at the line of scrimmage. In his junior year he had 4.5 sacks, 9.5 tackles for loss, and 92 total tackles. Mathis is one of the few targeted linebackers, San Diego State was pursuing.
The signing continues to build a strong defense which loses only Jake Fely at the linebacker depth. Standout linebacker Calvin Munson returns for his senior season, and competition for starting roles will heat up in spring ball.
Mathis' highlight reel reveals a smart, agile defender who fights through blocks and commits to stopping forward progress. You can check more here.
