San Jose State escape with 77-76 win over Bowling Green

The Spartans and Falcons have met just once on February 3, 1950, but San Jose kept Bowling Green winless on the road.

Coming into Sunday's game, both teams won four out of their last six games. Players have completed their finals for the fall semester. As of Sunday, the Spartans are 4-2 at home while the Falcons are 0-5 on the road.

The Spartans led the Falcons 17-13 midway through the first half. They went on to tie the game 24-24 at 7:14. Then the Spartans took a six-point lead following a 14-3 run in a span of 3:49.

San Jose State built a 44-29 halftime lead over Bowling Green. Senior guard Isaac Thornton became second all-time Spartan in steals.

Sophomore forward Brandon Clarke became the first SJSU player to score at least 20 points in the first half since Frank Rogers’ 23 against the Alaska Anchorage Seawolves. In addition, sophomore forward Ryan Welage led his team in three-pointers.

The Spartans kept the momentum going, but the score was tied 68-68 with 2:56 left in the second half. Local fans were on their feet as Clarke made a free throw to put SJSU ahead in the final second of the game.

The Spartans escaped with a 77-76 win over the Falcons at home.


The Spartans return to action when they host the Southern Utah Thunderbirds Wednesday at 7:00 pm PST on Mountain West Network and KLIV 1590 AM.
