Colorado State Shuts Out Fresno State, 37-0

For the first time in 26 years, the CSU Rams shut out another team

The Colorado State Rams came into this game against the Fresno State Bulldogs expecting to have their secondary tested. Instead the defense had its best performance of the year.

The game started slow with the Rams driving and then failing to convert on 4th down. The Rams defense held Fresno to a 3 and out. The Rams then scored on the rest of their drives in the first half.

First came a field goal after a 10 play, 48-yard drive. Then Marvin Kinsey finished off a 4 play, 66 yard drive with a 5 yard touchdown run. Michael Gallup scored the next touchdown on an 18 yard screen to finish off a 5 play, 62 yard drive. The Rams final score of the first half came on a 1 yard touchdown run from Izzy Matthews to cap off a 15 play, 84 yard drive.

The Rams second half while not as explosive scoring wise, finished off the job for the Rams on the day. Anthony Hawkins caught a 14 yard touchdown pass to finish off an 8 play, 60 yard drive. The Rams final score of the day came from another 1 yard Izzy Matthews touchdown run.

The Rams defense was the story of the day. The Rams shut out a team for the first time in 26 years, when they shut out Hawaii 63-0. The Rams defense had six sacks in the game. In the first half, CSU held the Bulldogs to 63 yards in the first half, with 25 of those coming on the last play of the half.

In the second half, the Bulldogs started to move the ball more but couldn’t finish drives. The Bulldogs had 189 yards in the second half. They were close to scoring on 3 drives. Two of them ended on downs and the other ended with an interception.

The Rams will be a confident team going into next week against Air Force. They just can’t let this game go to their heads. The Bulldogs will need to take whatever positives they can from this game and move forward.
