Rivalry renewed: UNLV takes on Nevada

Tony Sanchez previews UNLV-UNR rivalry

NCAA Football: Wyoming at UNLV Stephen R. Sylvanie-USA TODAY Sports

With rivalry week upon us, UNLV head coach Tony Sanchez used the majority of this week’s press conference to talk about winning the game and keeping the Fremont Cannon in town for the second straight year. The Rebels defeated the Wolf Pack last season 27-22 after being blown out 49-27 in 2014.

In addition to the rivalry, UNLV will honor its seniors as they play their final game at Sam Boyd stadium. As such, coach Sanchez was joined by seniors Will Kreitler and Ryan McAleenan who were asked about to speak on how they think they would feel going into Saturday’s game. Both players agreed that it would be the biggest of their careers, even bigger with a victory.

As for the game itself, coach Sanchez said that the key to a Rebels victory would be establishing the run (UNR is ranked near the bottom in run defense), and making plays in the passing game, something UNLV has been successful at as of late. Sanchez also stressed the importance of the offense converting third downs and the defense forcing them.

The game will kickoff on Saturday at 1:04 pm PT and will be streamed on ESPN 3. You can watch the full press conference below:
