Mountain West Basketball Countdown: #9 - Jeremy Hemsley

San Diego State’s point guard is #9 in the MW countdown.

NCAA Basketball: Utah State at San Diego State Jake Roth-USA TODAY Sports

San Diego State guard Jeremy Hemsley checks in at #9 on the Mountain West Basketball Countdown.

Hemsley, now a sophomore, brought new life to the Aztec offense last year, scoring 12 points per game and recorded a 47.9% effective field goal percentage, third best among returning SDSU players.

Hemsley is a legitimate All-Mountain West candidate this season, and pairs up with junior guard Trey Kell in one of the better backcourts in the nation. Steve Fisher will hope that Hemsley can consistently shoot the ball this season, as SDSU struggled many nights last year with lengthy cold streaks.

When Hemsley is effective, so are the Aztecs. San Diego State was 11-1 last year when Hemsley made over 50% of his field goal attempts, but he did so in just 12 of his 37 appearances.

The Mountain West Connection staff expects Hemsley to shine this season as he continues to develop his offensive repertoire and improve his assist-to-turnover ratio. If he can be consistent on a nightly basis, Hemsley will finish on the All-Mountain West team and the Aztecs will reap the benefits. Watch out for this sophomore guard.
