Tuesday an already depleted UNLV Rebels (2-3, 1-0) receiving corps was dealt another significant blow. Redshirt freshman wide receiver Darren Woods Jr. will miss the remainder of the 2016 season. Woods suffered a knee injury Saturday during UNLV’s 45-20 home win over Fresno State (1-4, 0-1).
Woods is the third Rebels wide receiver to have his season cut short by injury. A week before the 2016 opener against Jackson State, junior Kendal Keys had season ending knee surgery. Freshman Brandon Presley suffered a foot injury in that game, ending his season as well.
Woods ranks second on the team in receptions (13) and receiving yards (189). He is the team’s leading kick returner, averaging 27.2 yards per return. Woods’ best game of the season was a 4 catch, 66 yard effort in a loss to the Idaho Vandals on September 24th.
The Rebels next game is Saturday, October 8th at San Diego State (3-1, 0-0).
