UNLV Rebels baseball will take center stage at Wrigley Field in Chicago before the game four World Series matchup between the Chicago Cubs and Cleveland Indians.
Hall of Fame pitcher and current UNLV baseball coach Greg Maddux has been invited to throw out the first pitch Saturday night. Maddux spent a total of ten seasons of his legendary 23 year career with the Cubs. While in Chicago he was twice named an All-Star and won the Cy Young Award in 1992. The Cubs retired the #31 jersey in 2009 in honor of Maddux and Chicago legend Ferguson Jenkins.
Maddux was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame January 8th, 2014. This year the Las Vegas native joined UNLV head coach Stan Stolte’s staff as a volunteer coach. Maddux’s son Chase pitches for the Rebels.
Game 4 of the World Series is scheduled to begin at 5:08 pm PT Saturday. It has not been announced if anyone associated with the Nevada Wolf Pack baseball program is scheduled to throw out the first pitch in games 5, 6, or 7.
