The Nevada Wolf Pack (13-8, 5-4 MW) earned a hard fought road win tonight as they defeated the Utah State Aggies (11-9, 3-6 MW) by a score of 89-84. It was an impressive victory for Nevada given that the team traveled ten hours on a bus from Reno, Nevada to Logan,Utah early this morning. Five Wolf Pack players scored in double figures as DJ Fenner led all Nevada players with 21 points. Marqueze Coleman chipped in with 20 points while Tyron Criswell scored 19 points and Eric Cooper Jr., chipped in 13 points. Chris Smith led the Aggies in scoring with 19 points while Jalen Moore scored 17 points and Shane Rector score 16 points.
The Wolf Pack were down 22-18 to Utah State but went on a 13-0 scoring run to take a 32-22 lead that Nevada extended to a 49-35 lead at the end of the half. In the second half, the Aggies offense was explosive as they went on a 17-10 scoring run to cut the Nevada lead to seven points. The Aggies tied the game at 78-78 with 2:53 left in the game but that was as close as they got as the Wolf Pack hit clutch free throws in the final minutes to secure the victory for the Wolf Pack. The win improves Nevada's record at the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum to 4-18.
Nevada has won three straight road wins for the first time since January 2014 and at the half way point of conference play, the Wolf Pack are 5-4 and completed a four game stretch where they defeated Wyoming, UNLV and Utah State and almost defeated San Diego State. This Wolf Pack team is improving quickly and could finish in the top half of the conference at the end of the season and could be a factor in the conference title race. Nevada's next game will not be for a week as they travel to Fort Collins to face the Colorado State Rams next Saturday afternoon.
