The first bowl game of the season featured a lot of wind, so the ground game was in full force in this matchup between New Mexico and UTSA. Since the Lobos do not pass much that did not impact them all that much as they won 23-20 over the Roadrunners.
This was the fourth-ever bowl win for New Mexico. They won this same bowl in 2007 and prior to that was a near 50-year draft back to 1961 and then 1945 prior to that.
The first touchdown came at the end of the first quarter. Head coach Bob Davie decided to call a timeout with a few seconds left to make sure that if they scored, or kicked a field goal, that the wind would be in their favor.
