Rams Roll to 65-13 win over Savannah State

Rams start the Bobo era with an offensive explosion. Beating Savannah State 65-13 on Ag Day.

Ron Chenoy-USA TODAY Sports

This was expected, the Rams were heavy favorites and Savannah State is known as the FBS beating drum. Colorado State scheduled this match up after the rival down south Colorado, requested to move the Rocky Mountain Showdown to week 3. Which moved the second game of  a two game series with Alabama to 2017.  Back to the game though, this game was over 45 seconds into game when the Tigers botched their first two snaps, with the second going into the end zone and Kevin Davis recovered for the Rams first touchdown of 2015.

The Rams keep their foot on the gas throughout the first half, racing to a 45 to 7 halftime lead. The starter Nick Stevens torched the Tigers defense throwing four first half touchdowns to four different receivers. Rashard "Hollywood" Higgins was the recipient of one of the touchdown passes, as he finished the game with 84 yards on seven receptions. The other receivers were, Kivon Cartwright, Jason Oden, and Xavier Williams. Stevens added a fifth touchdown pass to Joe Hansley as the Rams scored on the opening possession of the third quarter. Stevens was replaced by Coleman Key after that touchdown drive, and he joined the touchdown party right away.

The score could have gotten worse if it wasn't for Jordan Vaden dropping the ball before reaching the end zone on a 100 yard kick return. The ball ended up being recovered for a touchback giving the Tigers a 1st and 10 from their own 20. The Rams added a touchdown on the last play of the game making the score 65-13.

The Rams have now won six consecutive home games and start the Mike Bobo era with a bang. Granted it was against an inferior opponent, it helps build confidence for a bigger test coming this weekend in Minnesota. Despite putting on a show, there was still some sloppiness that needs to be corrected before Minnesota comes to town this weekend. Ram fans should still be excited about the potential this team could have this year.
