Nevada Football: Polian plans to name starting quarterback before Saturday's scrimmage

The Nevada head coach will chose a starting quarterback before this weekend's scrimmage but both quarterbacks will see action in the season opener.

Nevada head coach Brian Polian says that he is close to choosing a starting quarterback but he plans on playing both quarterbacks, junior Tyler Stewart and freshman Hunter Fralick, in the season opener against UC Davis on September 3rd.

"We're at a point where it's reasonable to assume that they'll both play the first game," Polian said on Tuesday.

Coach Polian wanted to wait on naming the starting quarterback until the last few fall practices. And with Tuesday being the 15th fall practice for Nevada, Polian says that he will gather his staff and make a decision on who will start this Saturday's scrimmage in the next couple of days.

Polian said that "statistically right now, its very close" between Fralick and Stewart for the starting job. During last Saturday's scrimmage, the performance of the quarterbacks were about equal. Both Fralick and Stewart led the first team offense to a touchdown series and a field goal series and neither player turned the ball over despite Fralick giving up two safeties.

This Saturday's scrimmage marks the final day of fall camp for the Wolf Pack and after that, the Wolf Pack will prepare for their season opener against UC Davis on September 3rd at Mackey Stadium.
