UNLV running back Altee Tenpenny dismissed from team

UNLV running back Altee Tenpenny, who transferred from Alabama in May, was dismissed from the team on Friday.

The Altee Tenpenny era at UNLV is over.

Declining to offer specifics, Rebels head coach Tony Sanchez announced Friday that Tenpenny was dismissed from the football team following a violation of team rules.

"It's unfortunate, but we've got plenty of guys," Sanchez told the Las Vegas Review-Journal. "The young guys look fantastic. That had nothing to do with (the dismissal). At the end of the day, rules are the rules."

Due to NCAA transfer policy, Tenpenny would have sat out the 2015 season. He last played for the Alabama Crimson Tide in 2014 before announcing his transfer to UNLV in May. In two seasons with Alabama the once highly sought after recruit totaled 136 rushing yards.

A four star recruit in 2013, at the time of his transfer Tenpenny quipped, ""There's no history to compete with (at UNLV) except for Ickey Woods and the great Ickey Shuffle."

Tenpenny will now have to carve out his own endzone celebrations elsewhere. The new future of the UNLV backfield will include freshman running backs Lexington Thomas and Xzaviar Campbell. Both have seen a significant number of snaps during training camp.

The 2015 UNLV Rebels football season kicks off Saturday, September 5th at Northern Illinois.
