New Mexico Basketball: Deshawn Delaney gets NBA Summer League invite

Delaney was officially invited to play for the Brooklyn Nets on Tuesday.

Brian Losness-USA TODAY Sports

After not hearing his name called during the NBA draft, former New Mexico Lobos guard Deshawn Delaney will get his chance to chase his dream of playing professional basketball. While it was rumored for along time the Brooklyn Nets announced Tuesday that Delaney would be playing with them this summer. The Nets will be playing in both the Orlando and Las Vegas leagues. He is one of 19 players signed so it there will be a lot of competition for playing time.

Delaney will be joined on the Nets team by two high profile undrafted free agents in university of Connecticut's Ryan Boatright and Cliff Alexander of Kansas.   He will also be joined former Mountain West Conference foes Khem Birch of UNLV and 2013 conference player of the year Xavier Thames. It may be a long shot for him to make the roster but with a good showing in practice and during games he may work his way on to a roster like teammate Alex Kirk did last year
