Jim McElwain gives $5,000 to former Colorado State player Eli Edwards

Former Colorado State head coach is helping out a former Rams player who was in need of some assistance.

Even though Jim McElwain is now the head coach at Florida, he is still giving back to Colorado State. Former Rams defensive lineman Eli Edwards was in need of help getting after his wife, Isa Edwards, passed away while receiving treatment in New Zealand for lupus.

Edwards needed help getting his late wife and their son back to the United States for her funeral. Matt Stephens of The Coloradon reports how McElwain helped out with a $5,000 donation.

Former Colorado State University defensive lineman Eli Edwards lost his wife, Isa Edwards, June 6 after a battle with lupus. Since then, Eli and his daughter, Ellyse, have been stuck in New Zealand — where Isa was receiving treatment — unable to afford to fly back to the United States and hold a funeral for his late wife.

To help cover the costs, Edwards setup a GoFundMe account asking for friends, if they were able, to give what they could to help bring his family home. The response has been overwhelming.

This is a great gesture from the McElwain family and if not for some people looking over donations from their GoFundMe page, because this contribution was made on June 11, and with this note.

Coach Mac, Karen and Family are so saddened by the news. Our hearts and prayers are with you.

This is a great example of the Colorado State family sticking together and helping a former player, and so far there has been $21,020. To donate yourself head over to Edwards' GoFundMe page.
