The New Mexico Lobos seem to have a knack for finding talent late in the recruiting season, last year they found Sam Logwood and this year they found 7-foot Serbian center Nikola Scekic. Scekic who spent last season at MMG Academy in Orlando, Florida. He had options to play professionally in Europe and drew interest from high major teams like Georgetown but chose to play college basketball and committed to the Lobos instead.
Scekic will be a freshman in the 2015-16 season and will join Obij Aget at the center position. Right now he is a raw player but his skills compare to those of former Lobo Alex Kirk. After losing out on other big time recruits, New Mexico now has full roster for 2015.
There has been speculation that the scholarship left vacant by Jordan Goodman's departure would go to walk-on Tim Jacobs, but his chances were dashed when coach Neal said he would hit the recruiting trail last week. Scekic will join the trio of Jordan Hunter, Dane Kuiper and Anthony Mathis as freshman this season.
ESPN's Andy Katz see's Scekic a sleeper pickup for the Lobos.
