Boise State and UTEP  have agreed to renew their old WAC rivalry in the 2021 and 2022 seasons. The first game of the series will be at Albersons Stadium in Boise, Idaho, on Sept 4th, 2021 and the the return trip will be to El Paso, Texas, at the Sun Bowl on Sept. 24, 2022.

Boise State has won all five meetings of this series, and the most recent game was in 2004 which saw the Broncos top the Miners, 47-31. The following year UTEP left the WAC to be part of Conference USA.

"We are pleased to re-establish our rivalry with former WAC champion Boise State," said UTEP Director of Athletics Bob Stull. "I think our fans will be excited to see the Broncos back in the Sun Bowl."

In addition to scheduling UTEP, Boise State added another home-and-home football series against the Rice Owls. Boise State will host the first leg against Rice on Sept. 9, 2023 and then the following year the Broncos will travel to Houston to play the Owls on Sept. 7, 2024.

With these series additions, Boise State has finalized its non-conference slates for the 2022 and 2023 seasons. The 2021 season still has one more open date for out of league play.
