After a successful senior season for the Colorado State Rams, forward J.J. Avila has accepted an invitation to play in the Portsmouth Invitational Tournament, located in Portsmouth, Virginia. Avila will play for team Cherry Bekaert.
Avila averaged 16.7 points and 7.5 rebounds per game in his final season as a Ram, which was good enough to earn First Team All-Mountain West honors. Avila will join 63 other college seniors from around the country to play in front of NBA and international scouts.
The Portsmouth Invitational Tournament has is entering it's 63rd year and has featured NBA greats such as Rick Barry, Scottie Pippen, Earl Monroe and John Stockton. 2015 NBA All-Star Jimmy Butler of the Chicago Bulls also played in the tournament, winning the MVP in 2011. The tournament takes place April 8-11 as NBA hopefuls partake in their final games before the NBA draft process begins.
