Colorado State vs Nevada: The Rematch of a historic blowout

Colorado State heads to Nevada in what is a rematch of a historic blowout

Ron Chenoy-USA TODAY Sports

When these two teams met in January, Colorado State was without JJ Avila. However no one expected the game to turn out the way it did. Colorado State won by a lot, a whole lot. The Rams won by a Mountain West conference record 56 points without their best player. Five players scored in double figures including two bench players who scored over 20 points. Walk ons were coming on the court and scoring immediately. The Rams hit 13 three pointers and was up 55-12 at halftime. This time the game is a rematch and Nevada will be itching to make this game more respectable on senior night.

The Rams this time have more pressure on them due to being projected as the one of the last four teams in the tournament. They need to keep winning against teams they are supposed to beat in order to get a bid in the tournament. They will have their best player Avila back which could slow things down on the offensive end but that doesn't mean the offensive production/firepower will. Avila is an all around player that poses a big challenge to Nevada. If the Rams play their game then this will be another comfortable win for them.

Nevada has senior night tonight so they will be looking to send their seniors off with a win. They were lead by AJ West in the last meeting in which they shot 5-30 from the field in the first half. The Wolfpack played their entire bench and just couldn't put the ball in the basket. They will need to play a near perfect game to pull of this upset because Colorado State is a very formidable opponent. They will need to keep the Rams off the three point line and force them to win by free throws.

Prediction: Colorado State 78 Nevada 55, this game will be close for a while before the Rams pull away in the second half.
