Utah State Starts Spring Practice

Utah State began its first day of spring practice on Monday, and there was a big announcement at the quarterback position.

Kent Myers is changing positions. The quarterback had a 5-1 record including a bowl win over UTEP will now be transitioning to play wide receiver. Myers chose to make the switch to wide receiver during the off season with the coaches to avoid redshirting or sitting behind the other quarterbacks.

Utah State does use a rotation of wide outs and Myers definitely has the skills and athletic ability to make the transition. It won't be easy to break into the starting rotation this year with two starters returning and four seniors at the position, but the position is wide open after this year. When you have the speed and moves in the open space to make the kind of plays shown below coaches will find a way to get you on the field as much as possible.

This move is something to keep an eye on throughout spring and fall camp.

Other notes from Monday's practice:

- Wide receivers Tyler Weese and Damoun Patterson are no longer on the team. Weese had a series of back injuries that made it to risky for him to continue playing. I can't be sure on  Patterson and do not want to speculate.

- Myron Turner is back on the roster. He was suspended from the university last season for an undisclosed issue. He will bring competition and depth to the secondary. I project him to get the start come August.

- There are four kickers currently on the roster, so hopefully one of them can figure it out and keep the Aggies from reliving past mistakes.

- Utah State announced a new director of player personnel in Reed Hornung. Previously Hornung worked at Louisville and will help with recruiting and football operations.

The football roster has been completely update and can be seen here.
